Chesapeake Energy: As the only technical employee moved from Oklahoma City to West Virginia, he kicked off horizontal drilling and fracking in the Marcellus following a billion-dollar acquisition.
Technical Expertise: Prior to the Marcellus, Austin extensively designed and modeled deep, high pressure, high temperature frac jobs throughout West Texas
and Oklahoma.
Sandridge Energy: Developed an "unwanted" field in West Texas from 600 bopd to 6000 bopd by identifying previous failures in completion design. This work led to three multi-billion dollar acquisitions based on his technical work, presentations, and budgets. During a time when all US focus was on natural gas,
his work paved the way for a 40-rig oil drilling program, pivoting the company to an oil focus nearly overnight.
Innovations in the Permian Basin: Developed and implemented some of the first oil zone drilling and fracking as part of a reentry of vertical wells campaign prior to the massive shift in the Permian basin to all horizontal drilling in oil zones.
New Technologies: Championed multiple new technologies that extended life in legacy fields and improved ultimate economic recoveries, such as multi-stage plungers, vapor recovery units, in-field vacuum pumps, isolation and stimulation of strategic zones in water injection wells, and capturing previously lost oil
within water handling systems.
Reliance Industries: Accepted a position as Vice President of Joint Ventures for Reliance Industries out of Mumbai, India. Following a billion-dollar acquisition across three US Shale basins, he focused on horizontal drilling and fracking within the Marcellus Shale in Eastern PA. By the end of his tenure, all minerals were fully developed, including nearly 15% deemed undrillable due to bad
partnership arrangements. Additionally, per-well costs were reduced by $2 million compared to identical wells operated by another company (Chevron) that did not implement strategic technologies.
Experience: Former VP and shareholder of
Millennium Offshore Group, Inc., Kent oversaw the
sale of its asset portfolio to ATP Oil and Gas and
Ridgewood Capital. He advocated for the
integration of cutting-edge technologies, enhancing
operational efficiency and productivity.
Entrepreneurship: Kent has operated his own oil
and gas assets and worked with Cal-Tex. His
entrepreneurial ventures reflect his deep
understanding of the industry and his commitment
to innovation.
Industry Contributions: Starting his career with
Clayton Williams, Kent drilled multiple carbonate
wells in the Austin Chalk. As a small partner in
EDCO, he was instrumental in drilling Austin Chalk
wells and pioneering some of the first dendritic
fracs and early horizontal wells in carbonates. His
efforts have significantly contributed to
advancements in drilling technologies and methods.
